The Poetry in the Image
When it comes to photography, poetry serves as a valuable form of inspiration for me. As an Okanagan photographer specializing in, family photography and wedding portraits, I find that written art forms greatly influence my approach. Poetry often reminds me of the importance of finding beauty in the mundane and the tenderness of small details, urging me to look deeper and be more intentional with my art.
These reminders inspire me to capture authentic moments, preserving the genuine emotions and connections that define each family and couple. The following are a few small quotations that I find particularly impactful in this regard. These poetic inspirations drive me to create images that are not just pictures but heartfelt memories, resonating with the same tenderness and depth found in the verses I hold dear.

“I don't just take things as given, I try to make them into something that reflects my personal consciousness, my spirit. I try to find the poetry in the image. This kind of certainty comes but once in a lifetime.”
— Robert James Waller from The Bridges of Madison County

To live content with small means.
To seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion.
To be worthy not respectable,
and wealthy not rich.
To study hard, think quietly, talk gently,
act frankly, to listen to stars, birds, babes,
and sages with open heart, to bear all cheerfully,
do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never.
In a word, to let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common.
This is to be my symphony.
— My Symphony by William Henry Channing

God spoke today in the flowers,
and I, who was waiting on words,
almost missed the conversation.
